Split Level Concerts Presents Americana + Contemporary Folk Music

Split Level Concerts at Jersey Shore Arts Center (JSAC) in Ocean Grove continues its concert series on Saturday, January 24, at 8:00 pm when Anthony D’Amato (a member of the folk-rock supergroup Fantastic Cat) performs in a special solo show! Deseree Spinks, a favorite of the Asbury Park music scene and leader of Des & the Swagmatics, will open the show.

Advance tickets are $30 ($35 on the day of the show) and can be purchased at https://www.ticketleap.events/events/jerseyshoreartscenter

Anthony D’Amato is a Jersey boy, hailing from Blairstown. His literate and folky songwriting style was refined and developed when he was a student at Princeton University. There he took an independent study class on songwriting with Paul Muldoon, the Pulitzer Prize-winning scholar and critic who was also the poetry editor of The New Yorker. D’Amato recorded a D.I.Y. album, Down Wires, in his dorm room as part of the independent study and eventually released it on his own in 2010. The album attracted a lot of critical press for its sharp, intelligent songwriting, and D’Amato followed it up with a second home recording, Paper Back Bones, in 2012, which also garnered positive reviews.

D’Amato rode this pair of well-received homemade releases to a spot on New West Records’ roster for his acclaimed 2014 album, The Shipwreck from the Shore. Two years later, his follow-up album, Cold Snap, helped bolster his growing reputation as he continued to expand his touring base throughout the U.S. and Europe. His next full-length release, 2022’s At First There Was Nothing, bristles with joyful energy and piercing insight, drawing on everything from hazy ’60s soul to rootsy ’70s rock and roll. That LP was followed by 2024’s five-song EP, The Salvage Sessions, Vol. 1, a collection primarily comprised of acoustic versions of songs previously released on The Shipwreck From The Shore.
