Shark River Island Marsh Planting and Living Shoreline Restoration Event

The marsh on the northwest corner of Shark River Island has been severely eroded and we hope to bring back the low marsh that has disappeared. Volunteer planting event on August 14th at 4:30 PM for the Shark River Island Living Shorelines Restoration Project. The closest address is 101 Seaview Ct Neptune 07753. Volunteers should be dressed to get muddy, have bug spray and sunscreen, a broom handle, and bring water.

We intend to plant approximately 900 Spartina alterniflora and create 0.15 acres of low marsh that is absent from the site. We will also be installing goose deterrents so the plants have a better chance of not being eaten by geese. If time permits, we may also be planting shrubs along an upland berm.

This is our first marsh sill creation in New Jersey so be prepared for photographs!
