Recipe for Success

Life can take many twists and turns, but when you have a calling, the right path will present itself. Such is the case of Valerie Mangan. With a background in design and art history, Valerie’s career began as an ASID member interior designer, eventually moving to a well-respected Home + Design magazine.

During this time, a love of baking led to a fun side hustle of baking cookies, particularly iced cookies. The orders kept coming in until one huge order proved that commercial baking space was needed. By taking this step, Valerie was soon baking for local food establishments in the Rumson- Fair Haven area.

Valerie is a self-taught baker who uses her craft as an artistic outlet. Not one to fuss with fondants and crazy cake designs, she prefers to stick to the tried and true basics infused with her own creativity. She calls herself a reluctant retailer, but as fate would have it, she just opened her very own bakery called “The Cookie & Crumb” at 1 West Avenue.

The ribbon-cutting was attended by Monmouth County Commissioners Sue Kiley and Ross Licitra and Atlantic Highlands Mayor Loretta Gluckstein. And so began Valerie’s storefront journey in the wonderful shore town of Atlantic Highlands.

Stop by for classic baked goods and coffee. You can also place a custom baking or catering order. Valerie and her staff believe in baking what they like to eat.

I think that’s a recipe for success for The Cookie & Crumb.
