One Beach One Read Kick-Off In Bradley Beach

The Bradley Youth & Community Club (BYCC) is kicking off summer in Bradley Beach with the first annual One Beach One Read. We invite all “Bradley Beach-ers” including middle school students and their families, year-round residents, summer dwellers, and municipal employees to read “Mañanaland” by Pam Muñoz Ryan. Read the book and join the BYCC for an interactive culminating event on Thursday, June 24th at 5:30 pm at the 5th Avenue Gazebo.

“Mañanaland” tells the story of 12-year-old Max who is confronted with an important choice that leads him on a dangerous and fantastic journey that teaches him about himself and what really matters in life. It is geared to middle-grade readers yet it is a highly enjoyable read for adults. With themes of kindness, bravery, self-sacrifice, and helping others, it is the perfect read to bring our community together.

One Beach One Read is co-sponsored by the Bradley Beach Library and the Bradley Beach Elementary School. Books are available in English and Spanish at both those locations as well as for sale at selected businesses in Bradley Beach including Stockroom Modern General Store, D’Arcy’s Tavern, Bradley Brew Project and Wellpoints, as well as the Asbury Book Cooperative.

The Bradley Youth & Community Club is a newly formed community mentoring program to provide one-on-one support for middle school students (grades 5-8) in the Bradley Beach Elementary School. Students and their mentors will work together to complete homework and classwork, build life and organizational skills, and create a supportive and consistent adult relationship for the mentee. The mentoring program will launch in the fall of 2021. Adult mentors able to make a weekly commitment during the 2021-2022 academic year are encouraged to apply to bbbcamentoring@gmail.com

The BYCC is a new initiative of the Bradley Beach Business Community Association (BBBCA). The BBBCA connects Bradley Beach business, nonprofits and residents; promotes town businesses and economic vitality, creates efforts to beautify our town; mobilizes civic programs to help our neighbors; and builds community.  Its mission is to bring business, community and the municipality together to enhance the lives of both residents and visitors as a partnership, thereby strengthening Bradley Beach resident life and economic development.
