10th Anniversary ~ 10 Thousand Women: Celebration at Asbury Lanes

By Bev Thompson ~

On October 19, 2019, Mary’s Place by The Sea, celebrated 10 Amazing Years opening up their home providing loving support to women with cancer with a mission to heal Mind, Body, and Soul for 1,004 guests in 2018 and 10,000 women served by the end of 2019.

The evening started off with a cocktail hour and welcome by Mary Ann LaSardo, Chair of the Board of Trustees, Michelle Gannon, President and Co-founder, and Maria McKeon, Vice President, and Co-founder. The celebration was Presented By Manasquan Bank and Jenkinson’s Boardwalk with many supporting sponsorships from surrounding communities.

Incredible auction items from trips to Antigua, Barbados, Saint Lucia, and Palm Island to spa and wellness days, artwork, fine dining, designer clothing, and a getaway to the Poconos were being offered to the highest bidder for the evening.  A Diamond Pendant Necklace estimated to be worth $4,000 was the Super 50/50 Raffle.

Inspirational Testimonial Speaker Roseanne Pace Gialanella, AKA Resilient Rosie, who has been a guest at Mary’s Place by The Sea, since 2015 shared her journey that began with breast cancer in 2005. As an advocate for metastatic cancer, Rosie has been honored to lead her sister survivors on the catwalk to support “Say Yes To Hope” as part of the New York Fashion Week for the past three years.

Laughter Is the Best Medicine. Special Guest Rob Magnotti, Comedian, Impressionist, and Actor did not disappoint. My friend sitting next to me remarked, “my cheeks hurt from laughing so much.” When it came to impressions, Rob had everyone on board when he transformed into Al Pacino, Nicholas Cage, Donald Trump, Adam Sandler, Ray Romano, Brad Garrett, Charlie Sheen, Johnny Depp, Ray Liotta, John Travolta, DWS’s Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, and many more with seamless precision.

The dance floor was rocking at The Asbury Lanes with the evening’s musical entertainment, The Bobby Bandiera Band. The band, a Jersey Shore local legend, with appearances dating back to the 1980s at the Stone Pony with Bruce Springsteen jumping on stage with them on weekends. Since that time, Bandiera and his band have backed up Springsteen at his benefit concerts.

There were over 250 supporters and survivors in attendance and over $150,000 dollars was raised in donations for Mary’s Place. My guest for the evening and sister survivor who stayed at Mary’s Place during the toughest part of her breast cancer recovery, said of the event, It was an enriching experience and both a deep and fun journey sharing it with you.” This was definitely the feel-good and joy-filled take-a-way for the entire evening, “Everyone Connected as One.”

Through fundraising events, donors, and sponsorships, Mary’s Place By The Sea will continue Their Vision: A world where every woman with cancer has a place to feel whole. Their Mission: To support women with cancer through integrative services that complement their medical treatment, empower, educate and support their healing: mind, body, and soul.

“Did you see our new milestone video on our Facebook page?” Kara Grimes, Director of Communications & Development’s questioned with enthusiasm that is nothing less than contagious.
