Beverage Companies Address Plastic Waste

The Coca-Cola Co., Keurig, Dr. Pepper, and PepsiCo have joined forces to launch Every Bottle Back, a program that hopes to address and improve the amount of plastic waste in the U.S. Coca-Cola outlined the four core components of the program, which include: reducing the use of new plastic in the U.S.; investing $100 million in improve sorting, processing, and collection of discarded plastic bottles; launching a public awareness and community outreach campaign to promote recycling; and reminding consumers that PET bottles are 100 percent recyclable and can be remade into new bottles.

In a statement,┬áKatherine Lugar, president and CEO of the American Beverage Association, which helped to organize the partnership between the beverage companies, said, “Our industry recognizes the serious need to reduce new plastic in our environment, and we want to do our part to lead with innovative solutions.”
