I never thought anyone would ever be reading the words I’m about to write.
I also never thought I’d ever have to write them.
My name is Jen Giordano. I was raised in Ocean Township (OTHS class of 95.) My husband AJ & I currently live in the Shark River Hills section of Neptune with our 3 sons. Xavier is 17, Sebastian is 16 & our 6-year-old is Giovanni. Giovanni is living with severe, nonverbal, self-injurious autism. He’s in a specialized private school in Ocean Township for children ages 3-21 with autism. When he’s not in school, I am his main caregiver as my husband works all the time!
In 2017 I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. I did ALL the things….Intensive chemotherapy & radiation, double mastectomy, reconstruction, full hysterectomy & a ton of different medications. For 3 years my cancer was kept at bay but I guess was still floating all around my body. In February of this year, I was diagnosed with terminal Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. I’ve completed a high dose of radiation already, I’m on high dose oral chemotherapy & am waiting a few months to go for an updated PET Scan which will determine need or IV chemotherapy again.
I’ve been presented with an opportunity to be able to be a patient at a cancer hospital in Mexico called Hope 4 Cancer. They are a world-renowned integrative cancer center that offers an array of different treatments to their patients based on the particular type of cancer that person is facing. These treatments are not available here to us in the USA because the FDA will not approve them.
The stay is 3 weeks and they do not take insurance……soooo I made the decision to start a Go Fund Me for myself. I made the decision to try to fight with every fiber of my being for my life, for my husband, for my boys, for my Giovanni – I have nightmares of what my husband would have to do as far as his care should I no longer be here.
