Guest Speaker: Dan Lieb
On Thursday Evening, January 24, 2019 at 7:30PM, Dan will offer the presentation, “Identifying the Vivian,” a shipwreck off the coast that fishermen and divers have been visiting for decades, yet no one knew the name of the vessel until an identifying artifact literally came up in a fishermen’s net. The problem was no one knew the location of where the artifact was found. The fisherman who found it took that information to his grave.
This shipwreck investigation was conducted by the Divers Association and revealed details of a collision between two schooners. The tragedy at sea involved the loss of one of the schooners and a member of its crew.
The Squan Beach Lifesaving Station Preservation Committee is sponsoring the program, and NJHDA is associated with this group and displays some of its artifacts in the station. Ticket price is $10. Light refreshments will be served. Proceeds benefit the Squan Beach Lifesaving Station.
Doors open at 7:00PM. Attendees are welcome to enjoy the shipwreck artifacts on exhibit.
Reservations are required. RSVP by calling 732-223-2231.
