With earnest concern for the environment, Colleen wrote in her scholarship essay,

“Through traveling the world, reporting on the environment, and advocating for change, I believe that I can alter the perspectives of every person on this planet and convince people to be more environmentally conscious.”

The Sea Girt Holly Club was founded in 1955 to create and cultivate the love of gardens and flowers; utilize their therapeutic effect; extend their beauty throughout the town; promote education through scholarships and programs so that members may become better stewards of the air, water, and land.

About Holly Club of Sea Girt– The Holly Club is the garden club of Sea Girt, NJ, organized exclusively for charitable purposes.  Besides our love of gardens and flowers, we fundraise throughout the year to give back to the community.  Our project proceeds go directly to efforts to beautify the town, which include: maintaining the landscaping at the Sea Girt Lighthouse, planting and maintaining the beautiful boardwalk planters, enhancing and maintaining the living memorial for Sea Girt residents lost in the Vietnam War “Operation Azaleas”, providing seasonal decorations throughout town.

Other community outreaches include flower arrangements for the tours at the Lighthouse on Sunday afternoons; scholarships to students who plan to study horticulture or a related field; providing flowers to a local nursing home; providing speakers to enhance the education of our members and the community to be better stewards of our land, water and air.
