Winter Marg’s To Celebrate National Margarita Day!

Every February 22nd, we come together for National Margarita Day to pay homage to our favorite celebratory cocktail. The margarita — triple sec, tequila, and lime juice — was created in 1938 in Mexico and is widely considered the official drink of having fun. It’s always 5 o’clock somewhere, and that’s never truer than on National Margarita Day.
So get out a shaker, pull out your frozen margarita machine, or head to your local watering hole and order your favorite margarita!

A winter margarita typically adapts the classic cocktail by incorporating seasonal flavors like cranberry, blood orange, or pomegranate, often featuring warmer spices or creamy coconut for a festive, cozy twist. Key ingredients include tequila (often reposado), citrus, and, frequently, rosemary or holiday-themed rims.
`
  • Classic Cranberry Winter Margarita: Mix 2 oz tequila, 1 oz orange liqueur, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 1 oz cranberry juice. Shake with ice, strain, and garnish with fresh cranberries and rosemary.
  • White Christmas Margarita (Creamy): Blend 2 oz tequila, 2 oz coconut milk, 1 oz lime juice, 1 oz orange liqueur, and 1 oz rosemary simple syrup.
  • Winter Wasail Margarita: Combine tequila, orange liqueur, and Trader Joe’s winter wassail punch (apple, orange, and spices) for a quick, flavorful option.
  • Spiced Pear Margarita: Combine tequila, lime juice, cranberry juice, and spiced pear syrup for a, savory-sweet flavor profile.
Preparation Tips
  • Rim: Use a mix of salt and chili for a savory kick, or sugar for a sweeter taste, particularly with cranberry.
  • Garnish: Fresh cranberries, rosemary sprigs, and lime wheels or twists make for a festive presentation.
  • Tequila: Reposado tequila is often preferred for its slightly aged and warmer notes.
