Wines For The Feast Of The Seven Fishes

This long-standing holiday feast deserves to be paired with delicious wine! Here are a few suggestions:

Tiefenbrunner Pinot Grigio. This light yellow almost sandy-colored wine has the typical intense nose of pear and candied fruit. Extended lees aging gives softness and roundness to the palate that is fresh. The noticeable acid and phenolic finish give impeccable balance, and plenty of character. The harmonious structure emphasizes the dry, full-bodied taste and round finish. Tiefenbrunner makes a good companion to all sorts of appetizers, as well as asparagus dishes, seafood, poultry, pork or veal.

Ruffino Orvieto Classico. This white wine is a delightful blend of four Italian varietals: 50% Grechetto, 30% Procanico, 10% Verdello and 10%  Canaiolo bianco. This wine is straw yellow in color. Fresh and fragrant with a delicate, slightly nutty aroma, notes of meadow flowers and clover accompanied by fruity hints of green apples. Dry, crisp and fresh with good body, earthy flavors and an aftertaste reminiscent of citrus fruits and pear, fading to a crisp and balanced finish. An excellent wine for any food requiring a crisp, delicately flavored white wine, such as antipasti, soups, seafood and white meats. Serve it chilled rather than ice-cold, to allow its subtle flavors to blossom.

Si Soave Italia. Soave Wine is one of Italy’s old-time favorites. This Soave is a lively, fresh, smooth white ideal for nearly any occasion. Crisp and refreshing, this white wine is made mostly with the native grape Garganega and rounded out with some Trebbiano. Similar in style to a Pinot Grigio, wines from Soave have less of an acidic kick and come off smoother with flavors of apple, citrus and tropical fruit. Drink liberally with an arugula salad, Italian salami or even a thin-crust margarita pizza!

Cantele Salice Salentino Reserva. This red wine from Puglia, in Southern Italy, is a blend of 85% Negroamaro and 15% Malvasia Nera. The color is ruby red with dark garnet highlights. This is a luscious medium-bodied wine that has beautiful aromas of dark cherries, black tea and spice. The flavors are of fresh dark berries and caramelized plums and hints of cedar. It explodes in your mouth with fresh acidity that is keenly balanced by well-developed tannins. This wine pairs well with any aged cheese or a hardy dish with tomato sauce, spicy peppers and capers.

Rocca delle Macie’s Chianti Classico. A Chianti blend of 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Merlot. This wine is a bright ruby red with mature fruit aromas. Rich and well-balanced with ripe berry fruit flavors Well-suited to a wide range of entrées including beef, chicken, seafood and pasta in flavorful sauces.

Zenato Valpolicella Classico. Zenato Valpolicella Classico delivers super clean aromas and flavors of blackberry, with a hint of licorice. A medium-bodied red with a crisp palate and a fresh, fruity finish. The wine is a blend of 80% Corvina, 10% Rondinella and 10% Sangiovese from the Valpolicella Classico area.
