SUNNYSIDE MANOR CELEBRATES NATIONAL NURSES WEEK WITH A STAFF MEMBERS “HOMECOMING” STORY OF FAMILY, COMMUNITY AND PASSION
This year’s theme for National Nurses Week (May 6-May 12, 2022) is “You Make a Difference”, which stands for and recognizes the immeasurable contributions and positive impact that nurses have on our lives every day.
At Sunnyside Manor in Wall Township, Megan Hyde BSN, RN, CDP is being acknowledged for her career and dedication to the community at Sunnyside. “For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a nurse”, says Hyde. “Many people find it unbelievable that I started my career in healthcare as a nurse’s aide at Sunnyside Manor while I was still in high school.”
After high school, Megan went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Seton Hall University and started her first job as a Registered Nurse at Brick Hospital in the ICU. She then went on to specialize in cardiac care and worked in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab in Morristown Memorial Hospital. “Up until that point, my career had been taking me on a very fulfilling journey and had provided me with unimaginable learning experiences”, Hyde explains.
Parallel to the long demanding hours of the fast-paced environment of working in a hospital setting, she started a family with her college sweetheart. They went on to juggle their busy careers while raising three children. But Sunnyside Manor was always in the back of Megan’s mind, “The desire to offer my children and my family a life where I could be present for them became my motivation and I made the decision to come “home” to Sunnyside Manor. I feel like Sunnyside is an extension of myself; both rooted in family values, community, and compassion. My “homecoming” filled a part of me I didn’t know was missing.” “This year’s Nurses Week theme is very fitting. Megan has made a difference in countless lives here at Sunnyside and we are forever grateful”, says John F. Keane, Jr., Vice President of Sunnyside Manor.
MaryEllen Keane, Vice President of Sunnyside Manor adds, “Megan’s homecoming story is a true testament to what our foundation is built upon family, community and compassion.”
Upon Megan’s homecoming sixteen years ago, she was reacquainted with some of her peers that she has worked with in high school and has inspired many and keeps in mind the importance of a role in providing care and dignity to the elderly population through volunteering and working at Sunnyside Manor.
Hyde ends by saying, “I love to care for people, but nothing has been more satisfying than being able to care for the aging residents of my local community.”
