James Earl Carter Jr. (October 1, 1924 – December 29, 2024)
Salt of the earth, a true Southern gentleman, the nation last our 39th President yesterday. Known for his humanitarian work, especially after his years in the White House, Jimmy Carter showed us what it meant to care for one another.
He was involved in many diplomatic events to highlight human rights and bring peace to our world. He grabbed a hammer and nails and built homes for the poor with the Habitat for Humanity non-profit. He married Rosalynn Smith on July 7, 1946 and celebrated their 77th anniversary on July 7, 2023. They became the longest-wed presidential couple in history.
Jimmy Carter became the longest-lived former President when he turned 100 earlier this year. According to his son, James E. Carter III, Jimmy died at his home in Plains, Georgia, on December 29, 2024.
Rest in Peace President Carter and thank you for showing us what humanity looks like.
