Sea Bright to Barnegat Light May 14-18 by Tony Sweet and Andrea Phox.
Explore 70 miles of central Jersey’s shoreline and its barrier islands, starting in Monmouth County’s Northern Peninsula, Sandy Hook and ending at Old Barney, Ocean Counties lighthouse at Barnegat Light State Park. This tour features pristine beaches, boardwalks, piers, amusements, rides, ferris wheels, and lighthouses. Often a breaching Whale or a pod of dolphins can be seen on the horizon.
These shoreline attractions are visited by millions every summer, the Jersey shore a historic holiday paradise due to its close proximity to New York City, Staten Island and Brooklyn. In 2012 Superstorm Sandy changed the face of the Jersey Shore. New Jerseyan’s are proud to boast this sun in the fun paradise has been revived to a new level of natural beauty.
We will visit Sandy Hook’s Fort Hancock built in 1847 to protect New York / New Jersey’s gateway.
We will explore along the barrier islands of Monmouth and Ocean counties, enjoy the Art Deco buildings of Asbury Park and its reclaimed Boardwalk. Aim our cameras at picturesque rows of colorful Victorians in Ocean Grove, drive the main road of Long Beach Island State protected Park, walk the exciting Point Pleasant boardwalk and see the famed Seaside Park’s surfers favorite beach and boardwalk.
You might even try a famous Jersey pork roll or a waffle ice cream sandwich and take home saltwater taffy made right at the shore. The workshop takes place right before the official kick-off of summer. This means the shore will be humming and ready to receive visitors starting Memorial Day the weekend after our tour ends.
