I’d like to introduce you to a powerful new force on the NJ live music scene – Funky Junction Band- led by legendary soul vocalist Teddy B. Funky Junction is a stellar R&B/Soul/Funk ensemble of eight road-tested, passionate pro musicians who all sing, lending themselves to soaring harmonies and tight grooves. This experienced group understands how to deliver live music done right. Though formed just over a year ago, FJB comes with decades of collective national and international touring experience, with some members recording/appearing with icons.
No need for horns – this band’s sound is rich, layered, and utterly unique. With dynamic dual keyboardists Dane Tedder and Dave Rand, lead and rhythm guitarists Rich Nichols and Pharoah, soulful bassist Gil Pringle, and our funky drummer James Jackson, holds down an infectious groove seamlessly, all anchored by powerhouse vocals from Teddy B. and Angel Casado, a fabulous entertainer in his own right. They provide an exciting live experience of soul-stirring music that moves you. This is the kind of band that gets the masses up dancing and singing along!
About bandleader Teddy B… Anyone with the pleasure of being in Teddy’s orbit already knows he is a force of human nature with a warm, inviting energy and charismatic stage presence. Teddy’s unforgettable signature sound has resonated with generations of appreciative, sold-out audiences. Amazingly, his career spans over 50+ years of actively performing as an artist, and Teddy remains gifted with that strong, silky smooth 1st tenor natural voice. I first heard Teddy B. perform at the Hard Rock AC a few years ago. It was simply an unforgettable show. He has appeared at every casino and premier venue in the tri-state area and beyond many times. You may remember Teddy B. having appeared on Jersey Shore stages like the Stone Pony, Wonder Bar, McLoone’s Supper Club, Hemingways and Martell’s Tiki Bar for many years as a former SSC frontman. But now he has a sensational band of his own, Funky Junction, and looks forward to entertaining more audiences of all ages everywhere!
Funky Junction began turning heads at the Brielle House on NYE, and then received a warm welcome again at the 15th Annual Big Man’s Bash in honor of Clarence Clemons. It was a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County, thanks to a booking and invitation from Isaac Fuchs. There were approximately 15 other talented bands that volunteered their time for this yearly event. The magnetic energy in the room when Funky Junction took the stage was HEARD and FELT! Once Teddy B. began belting “Dance To The Music” and fellow vocalist Angel joined in, with all the other members harmonizing, people came running into the room to dance! A fun time was had by all. FJB delivered another fantastic performance!
Funky Junction began establishing a name for itself at LANA Pier Village, thanks to a kind invitation from LANA manager Cheryl Maniscalco. Teddy and FJB were given their 1st opportunity to be seen and heard as a band in this uniquely intimate space in Long Branch. Having appeared there many times, LANA has become like a 2nd home to the band. With a repeat crowd, FJB has developed a strong local following there and has become a fan favorite for Funky Junkies. A quote from Cheryl simply states, “I LOVE Funky Junction!” A scaled-down version of FJB will be appearing at LANA once more on Sunday, March 29th, from 5 to 8 pm.
Funky Junction also appeared before an enthusiastic crowd at the beloved, longtime establishment Nip N Tuck in Long Branch. And according to Chris Murphy (one of the 2 ladies that own Nip), “We first came to know Funky Junction via Teddy B, who due to some show-stopping performances at karaoke with Giuseppe, became a crowd favorite. After learning about Teddy’s band and checking out FJB, we just knew we had to book. AND Funky Junction packed the house for their debut! We look forward to Teddy B. and Funky Junction Band’s return on May 30th, and definitely plan to have them back as much as they will have us. If you want to be blown away by a solo, come get a sneak peek of Teddy B. at Sunday afternoon karaoke! The show starts at 7 pm. Funky Junction is now a force to be reckoned with!
Next up for Funky Junction is Pat & Lola’s Garden Bar (formerly Blu Grotto) at Monmouth Park in Oceanport. Owned by the highly experienced hospitality team of father and son, Elvin and Casey Kehres, it’s the hottest new outdoor venue at the Jersey Shore! Funky Junction Band will be appearing Memorial Day Weekend on Sunday, May 24th, followed by a 2nd show on Friday, June 19th. Both shows are from 6:30 to 10 pm. Bring your lawn chairs and sunglasses if you’re not sitting in the bar area and have fun!
Funky Junction Band is also booking private parties. Of note is a Monmouth County councilwoman who was already very familiar with, and loved the amazing voices of Teddy B. and Angel, but has now become a diehard FJB fan after attending a number of shows and booked FJB for a for a party at her home in July.
