NJ Friends of Clearwater (NJFC) is having a Fundraiser on Wednesday, October
30 at Chick-Fil-A 1613 Hwy 34, Ocean Twp (Oakhurst) from 5 pm-8 pm

The NJ Friends of Clearwater (NJFC) along with the Navesink Maritime Heritage Association (NMHA) want to remind us of how far we’ve come, and also what more can be done at an open public meeting Sunday, May 19 at 1 pm at the Eatontown Community Center, 72 Broad Street in Eatontown.
Rik van Hemmen, a marine engineer, President of NMHA, and lifetime member of NJFC, will discuss the conditions in the 70’s, compare them to today, and provide focus on the future.
“While there is still much room for improvement, it is a good time to give ourselves a hearty pat on the back for the progress we have made in the last 50 some years,” said van Hemmen. “Often things may appear bad, but we should never forget how truly bad things were in the 1970’s.”
“We especially want to invite young people -high school and college age – who may not be as familiar with these conditions and origins of the environmental movement,” said Chrissie Goedkoop, President of NJFC. “We have made major strides in protecting Mother Earth and we need all ages to be involved to continue that progress.”
Light refreshments will be served. NJFC will also present its 49 th NJ Clearwater Festival Labor Weekend in Asbury Park, a celebration of the environment in music and song with information from environmental groups. And this summer, NMHA will be providing rides on Pete’s Banjo, NJFC’s Barnegat Bay Garvey, and run its River Rangers program for kids on the Navesink River.

“Asbury Park is a perfect location – it’s a beautiful seaside city and a certified Green City, committed to sustainability, and with a great music tradition.” said Chrissie Goedkoop of Howell, President of NJFC. “Our Festival goal for 49 years has been to combine family- friendly fun with a variety of outstanding music, and lots of information about how to protect our environment.”
“Asbury Park is excited to celebrate its New Jersey Sustainable certification since 2018 with
the Clearwater Festival this summer,” said Michele Alonso, City Planner and Chair of the city Green Team.
Tom Pivinsky of the Asbury Park Environmental Shade Tree Commission will be among the many environment groups at the Festival & The ESTC is inviting all Clearwater guests to show the children how to feed the birds and their parents how plant new trees in their front or back yards,” he said.
The two-day, bring your own chair event in beautiful Sunset Park near the ocean will be filled with: the sounds of music -rock, pop, gospel, jazz and more – on stage by local and national performers, spontaneous dancing, a children’s area, and useful information from environmental groups focused on protecting Mother Earth along with vendors, crafters, and food. As he has for many years, Brian Ostering of the popular band The Wag is assembling an impressive line up of professional performers for the Festival stage.
The NJFC Circle of Song, a group of folk singers and musicians who traditionally invite
others to join in, will also have a stage.
The Festival began in 1975 on Sandy Hook, and was inspired by a visit from environmentalist and folk singer Pete Seeger. The event was in Asbury Park from 2002 to 20012 and has since been to Long Branch, Middletown and Red Bank.
NJFC is inviting environmental groups, vendors, including food vendors, crafters, sponsors and donors to be part of this event.

The NJ Friends of Clearwater (NJFC) is once again offering its legendary Clearwater Festival online today Saturday, September 25 at 2 pm and continues until 10 pm Monday, September 27.
The event is free and happens on the Festival webpage https://www.njclearwater.org/festival.html The state’s oldest environmental and music Festival is virtual due to the covid virus.
This 46th Clearwater Festival will feature more than three hours of music from more than 20 national and local performers– folk, rock, and country – along with information about what you can do to protect the environment, and the grassroots organization’s efforts.
“Join us this weekend for our virtual celebration of the environment in music and song,” said Chrissie Goedkoop, Vice President of NJ Friends of Clearwater. “The need to protect Mother Earth has never been greater with results of climate change hitting home and our hope is that you will enjoy the Festival music and support our environmental efforts.”
For a second year, Andrea Spinelli, a video writer/producer and long-time Clearwater volunteer put together the Festival show, working with the performers and other volunteers. Gooedkoop and NJFC President Ed Dlugosz, Vice President Ingrid Heldt, Treasurer Ben Forest and Entertainment Chair Brian Ostering will introduce groups of performers and provide updates on Clearwater activities.
The NJ Clearwater Festival began in 1975 on Sandy Hook organized by Bob Killian, who was a member of folksinger and environmentalist Pete Seeger’s Sloop Singers. Killian will also perform in this year’s Festival.
