For me, it’s getting outside, away from the screens and take a power walk. Recently, WebMD reported that just a half-hour of physical activity a day could prevent millions of early deaths and cases of heart disease worldwide. “Meeting physical activity guidelines by walking for as little as 30 minutes most days of the week has a substantial benefit, and higher physical activity is associated with even lower risks,” said Scott Lear, from Simon Fraser University.

Lear and his colleagues analyzed responses from more than 130,000 people aged 35-70 in 17 countries. Participants were asked about their levels of physical activity, then they were followed for nearly seven years.

The conclusion was that 1 in 20 cases of heart disease and 1 in 12 premature deaths could be prevented if everyone met World Health Organization guidelines. WHO recommends that adults do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise a week. This is a mere 2.5 hours a week that could bring long term health benefits. It’s time well spent when we invest in our long term health.

Lucky for us, the Jersey Shore has many beautiful walking trails and beaches. Why spend time on a treadmill when you can enjoy the outdoors? We’ve listed Five local spots that make taking a walk into a mini-vacation!

Being On The Water Is Highly Effective For Achieving Peace Of Mind https://jerseyshorescene.com/being-on-the-water-is-highly-effective-for-achieving-peace-of-mind/ Fri, 12 Jun 2026 10:40:40 +0000 https://jerseyshorescene.com/?p=23711
This phenomenon is backed by a growing body of scientific research often referred to as “Blue Mind” theory, a term popularized by marine biologist Dr. Wallace J. Nichols. It describes the mildly meditative, relaxed state the human brain enters when we are near, in, or on water.
Our brains shift from a highly stressed “red mind” state—characterized by overstimulation and anxiety—to a calm, restorative “blue mind” state.
`
Simple Ways to Experience “Blue Mind”
    • Paddleboarding or Kayaking: Combines gentle physical exercise with smooth gliding over lakes or rivers.
    • Swimming: Yields a weightless, sensory-deprivation effect that closely mimics deep meditation or yoga.
    • Coastal Walking: Exposes you to crashing waves, which fracture water molecules to release mood-boosting negative ions.
    • Passive Gazing: Sitting on a dock or a beach for as little as 20 minutes to watch the water pattern resets your stress baseline.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, planning even a short trip to a local stream, lake, or coastline can act as an immediate mental reset.
