Identifying the CECILIA M. DUNLAP Shipwreck With Dan Lieb

The Squan Beach Lifesaving Station Preservation Committee in conjunction with NJHDA presents:

On Thursday evening, February 20, 2020, at 7:30 PM, Dan Lieb will offer the presentation, “Identifying the CECILIA M. DUNLAP.” The talk is about how he led NJHDA’s expedition to identify a wreck off Sea Bright that showed up on the wreck chart database as a “tanker.”

Like many wrecks off NJ, the wreck site offered little in the way of clues that might lead to an identification. As he has done in the past, Lieb decided the only artifact on the seafloor that could help was the wreck, itself. His team spent hours on the bottom collecting clues that would ultimately lead to the wreck’s identification.

The Squan Beach Lifesaving Station Preservation Committee is sponsoring the program, and NJHDA is associated with this group and displays some of its artifacts in the station.

The admission price is $10. Light refreshments will be served. Proceeds benefit the Squan Beach Lifesaving Station.

Doors open at 7:00 PM. Attendees are welcome to enjoy the shipwreck artifacts on exhibit. Worth noting, a new exhibit is being developed in the Station – a collection of home-built sailing ships and steamships models. Stop by and see the collection. The new exhibit will open this spring, but the ship models are available for those attending Lieb’s talk.
