Peto’s Studio & Permanent Collection Tour
Location
John F. Peto Studio Museum
102 Cedar Ave.
Island Heights 08732
Description
Join us at the historic home of the artist John F. Peto for a docent-led tour of the Museum’s permanent collection of 22 of the artist’s original paintings. A highlight of the tour is a visit to Peto’s studio, which looks exactly as it did when he painted there from 1880 until his death in 1907.
Because the home was maintained for so many years by the Peto family, many of the artist’s (and his extended family’s) belongings and furnishings, and the objects used in the paintings, remain in the home and are displayed as historical artifacts of the Island Heights arts community from the 1800’s. Peto was not only a painter, but also a photographer, and he has left behind a priceless photographic record as well, which depicts the quiet life he made for himself and his family in Ocean County.
